Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort
Perform thorough pre-op assessments and document findings clearly and promptly
Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiology and perioperative teams to prepare patients for procedures
Educate families and caregivers about pre-op instructions and what to expect
Monitor and report any changes in patient condition and escalate concerns as needed
Support efficient patient flow through the pre-op area while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

Current RN license valid in Massachusetts
Experience in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Strong clinical assessment, communication and family education skills
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to unit needs

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
Pre-operative preparation and perioperative safety practices
Familiarity with sterile workflow and surgical timelines
Excellent documentation and electronic charting skills
Empathy, patience and the ability to calm anxious families and children
