Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively to ensure safety and readiness for procedures
- Prepare patients and families with compassionate education and clear instructions
- Coordinate with the surgical team to streamline pre-op flow and patient handoffs
- Administer pre-op medications and perform nursing interventions as ordered
- Document assessments, interventions and patient teaching accurately in the chart
- Advocate for young patients and support family-centered care in a busy pediatric setting
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio
- Experience in pre-operative nursing and comfort working with pediatric patients
- Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred
- Strong clinical assessment skills and pediatric medication knowledge
- Excellent communication skills for working with children, families and interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to pass required background checks and comply with facility onboarding
Education
- Nursing degree (ADN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Pediatric pre-op assessment and preparation
- IV starts and pediatric medication administration
- Familiarity with perioperative protocols and infection control
- Accurate electronic medical record documentation
- Family-centered communication and patient education
- Team collaboration and efficient patient handoffs
