Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring stable vital signs and safe recovery
• Manage airway, pain control, and immediate post-anesthesia complications with vigilance and skill
• Administer medications and treatments accurately while documenting interventions in the medical record
• Provide family-centered education and clear communication to support parents and caregivers during recovery
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical, and nursing teams to coordinate smooth patient transitions
• Perform thorough handoffs and ensure transfer readiness to the inpatient unit or discharge when appropriate
• Maintain a safe, compassionate environment focused on pediatric needs and comfort

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, eligible to practice in Ohio
• BLS required; PALS strongly preferred given the pediatric focus
• Experience in PACU, post-anesthesia care, or pediatric nursing preferred
• Demonstrated competency in pediatric assessment, airway management, and post-op care
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical setting

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of post-anesthesia monitoring and recovery criteria for pediatric patients
• Proficiency with pediatric airway management and pain assessment in young children
• Skill in IV therapy, medication administration, and titration in the PACU setting
• Comfortable with pediatric family education and delivering compassionate bedside care
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond quickly during acute changes
• Team-oriented mindset with strong interdisciplinary communication
