Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient-centered perioperative nursing care in the operating room
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field, anticipating surgical team needs
• Assist surgeons and scrub/ circulating as needed during procedures
• Perform pre-operative assessments and ensure accurate handoffs to PACU
• Document care accurately in the electronic medical record
• Champion patient safety and infection prevention practices
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative team to optimize outcomes
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and professional development

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Louisiana or valid multistate compact eligibility
• Operating Room experience (OR-General) — comfortable with perioperative workflows
• Current BLS certification required; CNOR or perioperative specialty certifications a plus
• Strong clinical judgment, attention to sterile technique, and excellent teamwork
• Comfortable with EMR documentation and standard perioperative protocols

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but all accredited nursing program graduates are encouraged to apply

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
• Ability to perform accurate pre-op assessments and post-op handoffs
• Skilled in patient advocacy, safety protocols, and infection control
• Strong communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
• Good time management and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced OR environment
• Familiarity with perioperative documentation and basic EMR navigation
