Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the Neuro Stepdown unit
• Monitor and assess neurocritical patients, recognizing and responding to changes quickly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and multidisciplinary team members to optimize care plans
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
• Educate patients and families about conditions, care plans, and post-discharge needs
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with policies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or ability to obtain state licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Experience caring for neuro or stepdown patients preferred (SDU/Neuro Stepdown experience a plus)
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced setting
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; dependable and patient-focused
• Current immunizations and any facility-required screenings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with neuro assessments and monitoring (NIH Stroke Scale, neuro checks)
• Skilled in managing telemetry, IV medications, and post-operative neuro care
• Proficient with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and coordinate complex care
• Knowledge of hospital safety standards, infection control, and patient advocacy
