Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality long-term nursing care for residents across the lifespan
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings in the EHR, and implement individualized care plans
- Administer medications and therapeutics safely and accurately, following physician orders and facility policy
- Provide patient and family education to promote understanding, recovery, and optimal health outcomes
- Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and unit support staff; ensure safe delegation and quality care during your shift
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and make sound clinical judgments independently when needed
- Participate in interdisciplinary care coordination and attend care conferences to support resident-centered goals
- Complete and maintain required competencies and state reporting as part of quality and compliance efforts
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical competency assessment and High Risk competency required (timeframes noted in job materials)
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally with long-term care exposure
- Able to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical duties of the role
- Strong communication, delegation, and leadership skills; comfortable serving as charge RN when needed
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, and documentation (EHR experience preferred)
- Medication administration and pharmacology knowledge
- Infection control practices and emergency response (AED competency)
- Ability to interpret labs, diagnostics, and interdisciplinary notes to inform care
- Patient and family education, counseling, and psychosocial support techniques
- Leadership skills: delegation, staff orientation, and constructive feedback
