Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic, resident-centered nursing care in a long term care setting
• Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings, and develop individualized care plans
• Administer medications accurately and monitor resident responses to therapy
• Lead and delegate to CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks while maintaining accountability for care
• Document care and progress notes in the EHR and ensure accurate shift reports
• Provide patient and family teaching and participate in discharge planning and aftercare coordination
• Apply infection control measures and recognize/respond to changes in resident condition
• Serve as charge nurse when needed, providing leadership and direction for the unit
• Participate in unit meetings, competency checks, and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state required
• Direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license prior to start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred in a similar care setting
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and perform the physical demands of the role
• Willingness to take charge nurse responsibilities and float to other units as needed

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing: BSN, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Diploma in Nursing
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Proficiency with EHR documentation and accurate transcription of physician orders
• Competence in medication administration and understanding pharmaceuticals and side effects
• Familiarity with infection control practices and mandatory state reporting guidelines
• Skill in operating basic and specialized medical equipment such as AED
• Excellent oral and written communication to coordinate with residents, families, and the care team
• Leadership and delegation skills to guide CNAs, LPNs, and support staff
• Ability to recognize adverse signs and act promptly in emergency situations
