Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide independent, high-quality nursing care to laboring and antepartum patients, managing complex and high-risk scenarios
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret strip changes to guide timely interventions
• Place and calibrate IUPC devices and monitor uterine activity to support labor management
• Administer IV therapy, medications (including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, anticoagulation, antihypertensives) safely and accurately
• Maintain central lines (CVC/PICC), perform phlebotomy, and ensure line integrity and infection prevention
• Assist, circulate, and recover patients for C-sections and support the surgical team during high-risk deliveries
• Perform sterile vaginal exams, provide hands-on labor support, and intervene appropriately for maternal/fetal safety
• Document thoroughly and efficiently in the required charting system to ensure continuity of care and compliance

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the state of Texas (required)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience (mandatory)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on the unit and manage 1:2 patient ratios
• Familiarity with charting systems (facility requires charting competency)
• Preferred certifications: AWHONN Intermediate, ACLS, BLS, FHM, NRP
• Comfort and experience with high-risk antepartum care and obstetrical triage
• Ability to circulate/assist in C-section and recover post C-section patients
• Strong clinical judgment, clear communication skills, and patient-centered advocacy

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring (intermittent and continuous) and strip interpretation
• IUPC placement and calibration
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line (CVC/PICC) maintenance
• Medication administration including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, anticoagulation, antihypertensives
• High-risk labor management and obstetrical triage
• C-section assistance and post-operative recovery care
• Sterile vaginal exams and labor progression assessment
• Accurate, timely charting and documentation
• Mom/Baby and transition nursing (preferred)
• Infection control and isolation precautions/PPE best practices
