Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies, ensuring comfort and safety while following established protocols.
• Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans using gamma camera systems and related equipment.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document doses according to established safety protocols.
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment such as dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes.
• Maintain radiation safety and sterile/clean work areas, including use of required PPE and leaded protective equipment.
• Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, and the care team to support diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
• Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support colleagues and students in a rural hospital setting.
• Provide compassionate care for patients of all ages, adapting approach to developmental and clinical needs.

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required).
• Current BLS/HCP certification (required).
• One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred (new graduates welcome).
• Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety protocols.
• Strong critical thinking, communication skills, and ability to work independently in a single-tech site.
• Able to meet physical demands: standing, walking, bending, lifting/carrying up to 30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.

Education

• Current Hawaii license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
• Current BLS/HCP certification

• Radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety
• Gamma camera operation and diagnostic imaging techniques
• Dose calibrator, survey meter, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe proficiency
• Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
• Patient preparation and age-appropriate patient care
• Clear communication with radiologists and physicians
• Teaching/instructional ability and independent practice in a rural setting
• Critical thinking and problem-solving under minimal supervision
