Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic procedures such as EKG acquisition, Holter preparation/monitoring and cardiac stress testing with accuracy and clinical judgment
• Operate, calibrate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment to deliver the best possible images and diagnostic data
• Accurately schedule, process and account for studies in hospital information systems, ensuring correct charging and documentation
• Implement and follow infection control practices, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection to protect patients and staff
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, with demonstrated competence in neonatal and pediatric echocardiography
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor — mentor students from contracted colleges and provide high-quality clinical guidance
• Communicate findings effectively to cardiology physicians and the care team; document results according to departmental policies

Qualifications

• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program or a minimum of two years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: extensive hospital echocardiography experience and advanced pediatric/neonatal echo skills
• Comfortable working with EKG, Holter systems and cardiac stress testing equipment
• Experience using hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging
• Ability to precept and teach students from contracted educational programs

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Preferred: Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong skills in transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography techniques
• Proficient with EKG acquisition/analysis, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing workflows
• Familiarity with echocardiography machines, cardiac stress systems and computer analysis tools
• Working knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Good clinical judgment and the ability to provide age-specific care from neonatal through adult patients
• Solid communication skills for interacting with physicians, nursing staff and learners
