Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiography studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and transesophageal exams
• Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography safely and accurately
• Perform other cardiac diagnostics such as EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment for optimal image quality
• Assess and utilize hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation and correct processing of studies
• Implement infection control and aseptic techniques to keep patients and colleagues safe
• Provide age-specific care, with a focus on neonatal and pediatric patients when indicated
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor for students and colleagues, sharing best practices and guidance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification (required)
• Completion of a cardiac sonography/certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience (required)
• Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience preferred
• Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography is strongly preferred
• Comfort working day and night shift schedules as needed

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong proficiency in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques
• Experience with 2-D imaging, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
• Skill in exercise and pharmacological stress echo protocols
• Proficient in EKG interpretation, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing workflows
• Familiarity with echocardiograph operation and cardiac monitoring equipment
• Working knowledge of hospital information systems for scheduling and documentation
• Solid infection control practices and equipment disinfection techniques
• Ability to teach and precept students and junior staff in a clinical setting
