Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care to patients across the lifespan
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal probing, coronal polishing, topical fluoride applications, and dental radiographs
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and record vitals such as pulse and blood pressure
• Manage patient schedules and coordinate care to keep the clinic running smoothly
• Lead community prevention activities — think sealant clinics, Head Start screenings, and health fair outreach
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper sterilization and infection control practices
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, home care routines, and nutrition to promote long-term oral health
• Complete required clinical competency and high-risk competency assessments on schedule

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Active Dental Hygiene License in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska preferred)
• Successful completion of the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (required within 45 days of start and maintained)
• Clinical Competency Assessment (required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years)
• High Risk Competency (required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter)
• High school diploma or GED
• Comfort sitting for extended periods and good manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease processes and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficiency with dental radiography (x-rays) and periodontal probing
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and consistent clinical hygiene skills
• Ability to manage scheduling and coordinate patient flow efficiently
