Roles & Responsibilities

• Audit medical records to verify accurate CPT and ICD-10 code assignment and ensure documentation supports coding decisions
• Compile clear audit reports with analysis of findings and maintain audit logs for the revenue cycle team
• Meet established productivity targets for record audits while maintaining high quality and consistency
• Communicate findings to providers and clinical staff verbally and in writing, offering targeted education to improve documentation
• Design and implement tools and education plans with the Revenue Cycle Manager to strengthen physician documentation practices
• Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines and provide ongoing coding support
• Assist the Assistant Revenue Cycle Manager with evaluation of coding activities and performance reviews as needed
• Perform coding procedures as warranted to support operational needs and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
• Support multi-specialty coding needs and collaborate with billing staff to resolve coding and charge entry issues

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required
• Associate degree in a related field required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of combined inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience
• Proven experience coding professional claims in an office-based setting and interacting regularly with physicians
• Experience with multi-specialty group practice coding preferred
• Strong auditing experience and ability to compile actionable findings and education plans

Education

• Associate Degree in a related field (required)
• Bachelor Degree in a related field (preferred)

• ICD-10 coding and diagnosis validation

• Clinical documentation review and improvement
• Provider education and physician interaction skills
