Roles & Responsibilities

• Audit medical records to validate ICD-10 and CPT coding accuracy and ensure documentation supports coding decisions
• Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis of findings and trends
• Communicate findings to providers and staff — educate and collaborate to improve documentation and coding accuracy
• Design and implement tools and education plans with the Revenue Cycle Manager to support clinicians and coding staff
• Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines
• Perform coding as needed to support operational needs and maintain coding integrity
• Maintain audit logs and ensure productivity targets for record reviews are met
• Support peer review and performance evaluation activities as an assistant to revenue cycle leadership

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
• Associate degree in a related field — required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
• Five years of combined inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing experience
• Proven experience coding professional claims in an office-based setting
• Experience working with multiple specialties and interacting regularly with physicians to provide feedback and education
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for provider education and collaboration
• Familiarity with audit processes, productivity targets, and audit reporting

Education

• Associate Degree in a related field (required)
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems
• Medical record auditing and clinical documentation review expertise
• Inpatient and outpatient coding proficiency
• Multi-specialty coding experience and familiarity with office-based professional claims
• Provider education and training skills with comfortable physician communication
• Charge entry understanding and ability to support billing staff
• Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to synthesize audit findings into actionable recommendations
