Roles & Responsibilities

• Verify patient identification, procedural consent, allergies and contrast history before every case
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields; scrub with the physician using aseptic technique
• Set up and operate imaging and procedural equipment, including automatic contrast injectors
• Monitor and record patient vital signs and physiologic data throughout procedures
• Select contrast agents with the physician and document injection/physiologic data
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies; administer injectable meds per physician orders
• Advocate for radiation safety: wear dosimeter, document fluoroscopy time and dose, and optimize protocols to minimize exposure
• Acquire and process digital images, perform road mapping/subtraction/annotation and 3D reconstructions
• Assist with vascular access, ultrasound guidance, pressure transducer calibration and vascular closure device placement
• Provide post-procedural care, apply dressings/pressure and educate patients as needed
• Provide practical instruction and precepting for students and new partners

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited radiology or related imaging program
• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation (required)
• ARRT(R) required
• ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CI) required
• BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
• NIHSS competency required
• Comfortable working across Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, Interventional Radiology and Electrophysiology specialties
• Strong patient monitoring, sterile technique and emergency response skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited radiology or cardiovascular interventional technologist program

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven skill with fluoroscopy and digital image acquisition
• Radiation safety best practices and dose documentation
• Vascular access techniques and use of vascular closure devices
• Automatic contrast injector operation and contrast media selection
• Image enhancement including road mapping, subtraction, annotation and magnification
• 3D image reconstruction and image optimization (frame rates, protocol selection)
• Ultrasound guidance for vascular/organ access and pressure transducer calibration
• Patient monitoring, documentation of physiologic/injection data, and emergency medication administration
• Strong communication skills for team-based care and patient education
• Teaching and precepting experience is a plus
