Shift Type: Rotating 8-hour and 24-hour shifts on a 7-week rotation (1.0 FTE ≈ 170 hours/month); includes both day and night coverage as part of rotation; in-house call plus backup (home) call

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neonatal care in a Level III, 60‑bed NICU caring for high‑acuity infants
- Lead and participate in quality improvement (QI) initiatives to advance patient outcomes
- Collaborate with residents, nurse practitioners and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care
- Cover in-house shifts and provide backup call from home as part of the practice rotation
- Contribute to clinical research and academic activities through the KU School of Medicine – Wichita affiliation
- Supervise and teach trainees, fostering a culture of learning and evidence-based practice
- Coordinate transfers and escalate care when advanced services (e.g., ECMO, cardiac surgery) are required elsewhere
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Neonatology; open to new fellowship graduates who are already BC in Pediatrics
- License (or ability to obtain license) to practice medicine in Kansas
- Experience managing high-acuity neonatal patients in a Level III NICU
- Comfort with 8- and 24-hour in-house shifts and providing backup call from home
- Interest or experience in quality improvement, clinical research, and teaching
- Not accepting Locum Tenens candidates
- Open to J-1 and H-1B visa candidates
Education
- MD or DO (or equivalent)
- Pediatrics residency and Neonatology fellowship (or BC in Pediatrics for new fellowship grads)
Knowledge & Skills
- Neonatal resuscitation and advanced neonatal life support
- Management of ventilated and medically complex newborns
- Familiarity with Level III NICU protocols and multidisciplinary coordination
- Quality improvement methodology and clinical research skills
- Strong teaching, supervision and communication abilities
- Team-based leadership and collaborative problem solving
