Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform one-time, non-treatment Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments for Veterans
- Conduct thorough interview-based medical examinations and document relevant history
- Perform focused physical assessments as required (range of motion testing, muscle strength testing)
- Complete clear, timely medical reports and any required addendums or medical opinions
- Review and interpret diagnostics when requested and include findings in reports
- Coordinate with VES for credentialing, scheduling, and case submissions to ensure timely delivery
- Maintain professional boundaries—these exams are evaluative and non-therapeutic
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure as required by state practice (NP job title is specified)
- Comfortable and experienced in interview-based examinations and focused physical assessments
- Familiarity or willingness to learn Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam procedures and documentation
- Ability to complete clear, evidence-based medical reports and addendums in a timely manner
- Have access to a clinical office within a 50-mile radius of the assigned city OR be within 50 miles of a VES facility for per-diem assignments
- Reliable professional communication and ability to complete onboarding/credentialing promptly
Education
- Graduate-level Nurse Practitioner degree (NP) and active NP license (per state requirements)
Knowledge & Skills
- Interview-based examination techniques and medical history taking
- Range of motion testing and muscle strength testing
- Medical report writing, addendums, and clinical documentation best practices
- Reading and summarizing diagnostic reports
- Understanding of general medicine and compensation & pension exam standards
- Professional, non-treatment clinical assessment skills
