Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory care for neonatal and special care nursery patients including ventilator management and respiratory support
• Perform thorough assessments and deliver timely interventions to stabilize and improve patient respiratory status
• Collaborate with NICU and special care nursery teams to develop and carry out patient care plans
• Respond rapidly to emergencies and assist with resuscitation and critical events, using NRP and PALS protocols
• Document patient care, treatments and progress accurately in the medical record
• Educate families and caregivers about respiratory therapies, equipment use and ongoing care needs
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and competency evaluations

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license for Illinois (license verification required)
• BLS certification required
• PALS required
• ACLS required
• NRP required
• DCI/BVP required
• Experience with neonatal or special care nursery respiratory care preferred
• Comfortable working night shifts and alternating weekends as a traveler

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of neonatal respiratory physiology and ventilator management
• Skilled in neonatal resuscitation and advanced pediatric life support
• Proficient in monitoring respiratory status, interpreting blood gases and titrating support
• Excellent critical thinking and rapid decision making in high-acuity situations
• Clear communication and teamwork skills when coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and documentation best practices
