Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care using the nursing process
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, techs, and the broader care team to maintain surgical standards
• Serve as the circulating nurse during procedures — monitor patient safety and coordinate intraoperative needs
• Maintain accurate documentation and complete required skills checklist and credentialing items
• Adhere to medical center policies, regulatory guidelines, and infection control/sterile technique
• Support a full spectrum of surgical specialties (Ortho, General, GYN, Urology, Neuro) to ensure smooth case flow

Qualifications

• Active Michigan nursing license (must be active at time of submission; provide LARA and Nursys verification)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 2+ years of Operating Room (OR) experience — required
• Must be able to circulate in the OR — required
• Experience with Ortho, General Surgery, GYN, Urology, and Neurosurgery — required
• Skills checklist completed within one year of application (document required)
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Paragon EMR experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative and operating room nursing principles and best practices
• Circulating nurse duties, patient monitoring, and intraoperative coordination
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, and case turnover
• Comfort working across multiple specialties: Orthopedics, General, GYN, Urology, Neuro
• Proficiency or willingness to learn Paragon EMR
• Strong communication, teamwork, and situational awareness in high-acuity settings
