Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality telemetry nursing care on a Med/Surg-Telemetry unit, monitoring cardiac rhythms and responding to dysrhythmias
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy, manage PICC and central lines, and safely administer blood products
• Manage chest tubes, feeding tubes, wound vacs, JP drains and other specialized equipment with confidence
• Collaborate with Rapid Response and Code teams to stabilize patients during emergencies
• Chart accurately and efficiently in Epic to ensure clear communication of patient status
• Support interdisciplinary care by coordinating with respiratory therapy, PT, pharmacy, phlebotomy and social services
• Deliver compassionate care to adult and geriatric patients, including orthopedic and neurosurgical/trauma diagnoses
• Adhere to isolation precautions, facility policies, and flu vaccination guidelines (medical/religious exemptions allowed)

Qualifications

• Current RN license valid for practice in North Carolina (pending license not accepted)
• BLS and ACLS required; NIH/NIHSS required or preferred as noted
• Minimum ~2 years of Med/Surg/Telemetry experience preferred (first-timers are accepted)
• Comfort and experience with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Ability to float within scope to similar units when needed
• Willingness to work every other weekend and participate in required call per unit policy
• Orientation attendance (approximately 360 hours) and ability to meet facility onboarding requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote) and interpretation of cardiac rhythms
• IV therapy, starting and maintaining IVs, PICC and central line care
• Blood product administration and adherence to transfusion protocols
• Management of chest tubes, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and oxygen delivery systems
• Wound care including wound vac management and care of surgical drains
• Feeding tube care and basic neurosurgical postop care (e.g., lumbar drains, craniotomy management)
• Use of Epic for charting and strong documentation practices
• Familiarity with Rapid Response/Code team processes and emergency response
