Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using the nursing process and provide expert, compassionate care in Labor & Delivery
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to policy and state practice acts
• Document care thoroughly and accurately to meet standards of care and support patient outcomes
• Provide patient and family instruction to promote safe transitions and positive experiences
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command
• Participate in unit performance improvement activities and shared governance to advance quality care

Qualifications

• Current Illinois RN license (required)
• CPR, ACLS and NRP certifications (required)
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; education verification required
• Experience in high-risk labor & delivery at a Level 1 Trauma Center (required)
• Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing process and patient assessment expertise
• Care planning and individualized plan execution
• Medication administration best practices and clinical documentation
• Critical thinking and escalation of care when patient safety is at risk
• Patient and family education and care coordination
• Experience with performance improvement and shared governance processes
