Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform initial triage and full assessments for urgent care patients of all ages, prioritizing care and patient flow
- Provide telephone triage and follow-up calls, offering self-care advice and facilitating next-step care as needed
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy
- Document assessments, interventions, education, and patient comprehension accurately in the EMR
- Coordinate patient referrals within SEARHC and to outside facilities; track outcomes and report status to providers
- Maintain clinic supplies, equipment safety, and adherence to infection control policies
- Participate in emergency response and triage duties as needed, supporting a collaborative clinical team
- Serve as vaccine coordinator or secondary vaccine coordinator when assigned
- Contribute to department quality improvement and clinical team development efforts
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required
- Direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before the start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred (American Heart Association)
- Clinical Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform physical job demands
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take the NCLEX)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Urgent care nursing, assessment, and triage expertise
- Medication administration and IV therapy skills
- Strong clinical documentation and EMR proficiency
- Infection control principles and clinic safety protocols
- Customer service orientation and effective communication
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and make sound clinical judgments under pressure
- Familiarity with referral coordination and tracking processes
