Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing using evidence-based practices
• Provide professional FEES assessments and follow-up treatment plans for safe swallowing and discharge readiness
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and safe transitions of care
• Perform speech, language, cognitive, and communication evaluations and document clear, actionable treatment goals
• Operate and utilize specialized equipment (e.g., endoscope, electrolarynx, VitalStim) safely and competently during assessments and therapy
• Contribute to a fast-paced acute care environment while maintaining high standards for infection control and patient safety

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
• Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
• Current CPR certification at BLS/HCP level required
• Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed upon hire, must be completed within six (6) months
• Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of acute care SLP experience; prior FEES clinical experience and MBS ImP preferred

Education

• ASHA certification (CCC-SLP)
• Current Hawaii SLP license
• CPR BLS/HCP certification
• FEES course completion (or complete within 6 months of hire)

Knowledge & Skills

• Inpatient acute care experience and comfort with high-acuity patients
• Expertise in swallowing assessment and treatment (adult populations)
• Proficiency with FEES and familiarity with MBS ImP
• Skilled in speech and language evaluation, cognitive assessment, and patient screening/diagnosis
• Experience with VitalStim, endoscope use, and electrolarynx where applicable
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills
