Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene services for infants through geriatrics
• Perform periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride application
• Examine oral tissues, measure and record periodontal pockets, and perform dental radiography
• Record patient vitals such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature during visits
• Deliver clear, engaging patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition
• Coordinate and conduct community prevention activities including health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Manage patient schedule and ensure timely, efficient care flow
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper instrument sterilization and infection control

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter (AHA)
• Clinical Competency assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control techniques and proper instrument use
• Solid understanding of dental and periodontal disease and treatment therapies
• Clinical hygiene skills with accurate clinical judgment
• Proficiency with dental radiography and periodontal probing
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Good manual dexterity and ability to sit and work over patients for extended periods
