Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 4:00 AM - 12:30 PM; Weekend coverage as scheduled (Saturday & Sunday), 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM — Day shifts. May float between Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach; weekends may exceed every other to meet unit needs. Call coverage required.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive blood bank testing including ABO/Rh, AHG crossmatch, antibody identification, direct and indirect Coombs, and electronic crossmatches
• Lead transfusion reaction workups and collaborate closely with trauma teams during massive transfusions
• Run hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis testing including CBC/manual differentials and microscopic UA
• Document results accurately in Epic and maintain strict quality control and compliance records
• Operate and troubleshoot lab instrumentation (ACL TOP, Sysmex XM, CellaVision, Iris Cell, WAM, etc.)
• Float between Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach laboratories as staffing needs require
• Provide on-call support as needed and participate in departmental communication and handoffs

Qualifications

• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license required (no pending licenses accepted)
• BLS certification required at time of submission
• ASCP certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of clinical lab experience; strong blood bank experience required
• Travel/contract experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Ability to float between sites and provide reliable weekend/after-hours coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of blood bank and transfusion services, including massive transfusion protocols
• Proficiency with Epic charting and electronic crossmatch workflows
• Hands-on experience with ABO/Rh, AHG crossmatch, antibody typing, DAT and Indirect Coombs testing
• Comfortable with hematology testing (CBC/manual differential) and urinalysis (microscopic and manual UA)
• Familiarity with ACL TOP, CellaVision, Sysmex XM, Iris Cell, WAM and other lab analyzers
• Strong quality control, documentation, and regulatory compliance skills
• Effective communicator who works well under pressure in a trauma hospital setting
