Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and escalate complex situations to leadership as needed
- Provide clear, timely documentation and charting in the electronic medical record, including transcribing physician orders
- Supervise, delegate to, and support CNA/Tech staff to ensure safe, efficient patient care
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and implement infection control procedures
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and trauma situations, applying critical thinking under pressure
- Maintain clinical supplies and equipment levels and report needs to nursing leadership
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have active Alaska license; direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start date)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months and maintained biannually
- TNCC preferred (required for Emergency Department nurses)
- Clinical Competency (SEARHC) within 3 months of hire and every three years; High Risk Competency within 3 months and annually
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in emergencies, and supervise team members
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of nursing/medical practices, documentation standards, and infection control
- Familiarity with acute care and emergency department workflows
- Strong communication, teamwork, and patient advocacy skills
- Experience with medication administration (MAR) and electronic medical records preferred
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement nursing care and department procedures
- Calm, compassionate approach to patients and families under stress
