Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately in a fast-paced ER setting
- Stabilize patients and perform timely interventions for trauma, cardiac, and behavioral health needs
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to changes with appropriate clinical action
- Administer medications and coordinate procedural sedation when indicated and credentialed
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth patient flow through the 28-bed ED
- Document patient care, interventions, and handoffs clearly and professionally
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care
- Participate in performance improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure for the State of Hawaii required by assignment start (travelers must apply if not already licensed)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Experience in Emergency Room (ER) nursing with trauma care and cardiac monitoring experience preferred
- Comfort managing behavioral health patients in an ER environment
- Procedural Sedation, TMCC, and EMPC certifications preferred but not required
- Strong clinical judgment, ability to work in a fast-paced department, and excellent teamwork skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and rapid assessment skills in emergency settings
- Trauma care and stabilization techniques
- Cardiac rhythm recognition and monitoring
- Behavioral health de-escalation strategies
- IV therapy, medication administration, and procedural support
- Effective communication and teamwork in high-turnover environments
- Proficiency with electronic health records and precise documentation
