Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-operative cardiac and surgical post-op nursing care for telemetry patients
• Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry and promptly respond to changes in rhythm or patient condition
• Perform neurological assessments such as NIHSS when indicated and escalate concerns quickly
• Collaborate with surgeons, cardiology, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and complete required Prime competency exams and skills checklists
• Adhere to infection control, vaccination, and occupational health requirements to keep patients and staff safe
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Illinois (verifiable via Nursys)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS and DCI/BVP competency as listed
• Ability to complete Prime Basic Pharmacology, Prime Specialty, Prime Core Competencies, and Prime Skills Checklist
• Ability to pass required health screenings (drug screen, TB, immunizations including COVID-19, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Hepatitis B, influenza) and fit testing
• Comfort working acute cardiac telemetry and post-operative cardiac/surgical patients
• Per Diem availability and willingness to work rotating day or night shifts and every other weekend as preferred

• Acute cardiac telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
• Post-operative cardiac and surgical post-op patient management
• Telemetry alarm recognition and appropriate clinical response
• Strong clinical assessment and patient observation skills
• Competence with Prime skills and specialty competency workflows
• Clear communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary clinical teams
• Patient education focused on recovery and safety after cardiac surgery
