Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive perioperative care: circulate, scrub, and support procedures from pre-op through PACU discharge
• Operate confidently in a small critical access setting — manage cases across OB/GYN, ortho, general surgery, ENT, endoscopy, and dental
• Serve as the circulating nurse for C-sections and be prepared for hard-stop situations with calm, decisive action
• Deliver Phase I and II PACU care, monitor vitals, manage conscious sedation, and oversee safe recovery
• Chart accurately in Epic — maintain thorough documentation to support continuity of care
• Maintain infection control, radiation and laser safety, specimen handling, and universal protocol time-outs
• Start peripheral IVs, administer blood products per protocol, and support code/fire safety responses as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, social services) to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (OR) — experience as an RN in perioperative settings (OR, PACU, Endo, Pre/Post-op)
• Minimum 2 years perioperative nursing experience (2YR/1ST TIMERS OK as noted)
• Charting experience in Epic (charting system required)
• Experience working in a critical access hospital (this facility is small and hands-on)
• Ability and willingness to float within surgical services and assist other departments within scope
• Comfort and competence circulating C-sections (hard-stop capability required)
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS (preferred but not all mandatory)

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing fundamentals: circulating and scrub roles
• PACU Phase I & II management and monitoring
• Endoscopic procedures support (Colonoscopy, EGD)
• OB/GYN procedures including C-sections, hysterectomy, D&C, tubal ligation
• General and orthopedic surgical assistance (laparoscopy, joint replacement, fracture reductions)
• Administration of blood & blood products and cardiac monitoring
• Conscious sedation monitoring, specimen handling/labeling, wound management
• Familiarity with electrosurgical units, Steris, and OR/Hana table equipment
• Universal protocol (time-out) and infection control best practices
• Strong communication and teamwork in small-facility, high-responsibility settings
