Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate neurocritical care for complex neuro and post-neurosurgery patients.
• Manage invasive lines and monitoring (arterial lines, central lines, PICCs, EVDs and ICP monitoring) with precision and safety.
• Operate and manage ventilators, perform ABG interpretation, and provide suctioning for intubated patients.
• Administer and titrate continuous IV sedation, cardiac drips and vasoactive medications according to protocols.
• Deliver blood product administration and manage CRRT for renal support when indicated.
• Assist with or support chest tube management and other respiratory interventions (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC).
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (PT, RT, pharmacy, social work, radiology) for coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Document thoroughly in Meditech and maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid response and code situations with calm, skilled action.
• Support families through education and clear communication during critical illness and recovery.

Qualifications

• Active RN license appropriate for assignment (pending licenses not accepted).
• Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience; HARDSTOP for Neuro ICU experience (candidates should demonstrate strong neuro skills — ideally showing 3–4 items from the skills checklist).
• Travel nursing experience required.
• Certifications required: ACLS, BCLS/BLS, NIHSS.
• Meditech (charting) experience required.
• Willingness to float to like-units as needed and to work every-other-weekend schedule.
• RTO (return-to-office/time-off) restrictions must be included at time of submission.

Knowledge & Skills

• Start and maintain IVs, arterial lines, central lines and PICCs
• Blood product administration and transfusion safety
• Ventilator management, ABG interpretation and suctioning (ETT/NT)
• External ventricular drain (EVD) care and ICP monitoring
• Post-neurosurgery management, CVA/acute stroke protocols and hypothermia protocols
• Continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation monitoring
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• CRRT operation and troubleshooting (Prismaflex/Prismax familiarity a plus)
• Familiarity with advanced cardiovascular support: ECMO, IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz monitoring (preferred)
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions, phlebotomy and wound/drain management
