Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist with exams, cleanings, restorations and routine dental procedures
- Prepare operatories, sterilize instruments and maintain strict infection control standards
- Take and process dental radiographs as permitted by scope of practice
- Manage patient flow, prepare charts and document procedures accurately and professionally
- Support patient education and provide compassionate care to adults in a mental health/correctional setting
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure safe, efficient clinic operations
Qualifications
- Current Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license in California (required)
- Experience as a dental assistant; prior experience in mental health or correctional settings is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility security requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication skills and a professional, patient-focused demeanor
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Infection control, sterilization protocols and OSHA standards
- Familiarity with dental instruments, tray setup and chairside assisting
- Dental charting, patient records and basic chairside computer skills
- Ability to take dental radiographs if certified and comfortable with imaging
- Compassionate patient interaction skills, especially with mental health populations
- Teamwork, time management and adaptability in a fast-paced clinic environment
