Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough nursing assessments and deliver high-quality bedside care to patients
• Use NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) skills to assess and monitor stroke patients accurately
• Complete required clinical competency testing and Trinity specialty checklists to maintain excellence
• Verify and maintain patient records, documentation, and licensure/certification compliance
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and smooth transitions
• Provide patient and family education with compassion and clear communication
• Participate in unit safety and infection control practices, including fit testing and screening protocols

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in Iowa (License/Certificate Verification required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Familiarity with or certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Completion of Trinity Skills Checklist and Trinity specialty-specific competency testing
• Required health and screening items: 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon), COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, Varicella, Tdap, physical/health statement, and Trinity 10 panel drug screen
• Fit test and Trinity color vision screening as part of onboarding

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment and critical thinking for acute care and stroke patients
• Proficient bedside skills supported by clinical competency testing
• Strong documentation, communication, and teamwork abilities
• Infection control and workplace safety practices including fit testing
• Comfortable following facility-specific screening and vaccine requirements
