Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, high-quality nursing care to neuroscience and telemetry patients using established standards
• Perform focused neurological assessments and document findings clearly using the NIH Stroke Scale when required
• Monitor cardiac telemetry, recognize changes quickly, and initiate appropriate interventions
• Perform clinical procedures such as IV starts and Foley insertions safely and competently
• Lead patient care coordination with interdisciplinary teams and ensure smooth handoffs at shift change
• Document all care accurately in Cerner EMR and maintain clear communication with patients and families
• Respond to emergencies and code situations, applying ACLS protocols when needed
• Contribute to a positive unit culture by mentoring peers and participating in unit initiatives

Qualifications

• Valid RN license (North Carolina or multi-state compact) — active and in good standing
• Minimum 2 years recent clinical experience (telemetry, med-surg or neuro preferred)
• Required certifications: ACLS and NIH
• Strong experience with telemetry monitoring and neuro-focused patient care
• Comfortable with Cerner EMR or willing to complete Cerner onboarding
• Current BLS certification

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms
• Neurological assessment skills, including NIH Stroke Scale
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR documentation and electronic charting
• IV starts and Foley catheter insertion competency
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage patient ratios in a med-surg/neuro environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with interdisciplinary teams
• Critical thinking and rapid response in urgent situations
