Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM), schedule per unit needs; includes weekends with a minimum of 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks. 48-hour schedule option may be offered. Float requirement to other intermediate areas.

Candidate Pay Rate: $74.1 - $51.87 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality neuro stepdown and intermediate care to a specialized neurological and medical-intermediate patient population
• Continuously monitor cardiac status and interpret/manage dysrhythmias on telemetry
• Administer and titrate critical medications including LEVO, insulin drips, cardiac and vasoactive drips according to protocols
• Respond as an active member of rapid response and code teams when needed
• Provide ventilator, tracheostomy and advanced respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC management
• Manage complex lines and procedures: central lines, PICCs, blood product administration, chest tubes and surgical drains
• Support pre/post hemodialysis care and manage continuous bladder irrigation when indicated
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, maintain isolation precautions and ensure excellent wound care including Wound Vac management
• Adhere to unit policies (including strict call-off and RTO rules) and Novant behavioral expectations

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; Neuro stepdown experience required (call out limited neuro experience in notes)
• Traveler experience required: unit will not accept first-time travelers
• Current ACLS and BCLS certifications required; NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC and CPI
• Must be able to titrate LEVO and titrate insulin/cardiac/vasoactive drips per protocols
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Strong teamwork approach and ability to meet Novant behavioral expectations
• Willingness to float to other intermediate areas and meet weekend requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro Stepdown/PCU/IMC/Stepdown and Telemetry expertise
• Cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• TR Band, heparin protocols, thrombolytic agent familiarity
• IV therapy: central line/PICC/peripheral line care and blood product administration
• Titration of insulin drips and IV insulin protocols
• Ventilator care, tracheostomy management, BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC
• Feeding tube care and management
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Wound care/Wound Vac and surgical drain management
• Experience with rapid response/code teams and emergency response
• Familiarity with PYXIS, EPIC and SBAR communication
