Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients and families for surgical procedures with calm, clear communication
• Perform focused pre-op assessments and document findings accurately in the medical record
• Administer ordered medications and monitor patients for immediate reactions
• Coordinate with surgical team and anesthesia to ensure smooth handoffs
• Provide family-centered education and emotional support tailored to children and caregivers
• Maintain a safe, clean pre-op environment and adhere to infection control standards
• Participate in orientation and unit training to keep skills sharp and patient care consistent

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Ohio (or compact RN able to practice in OH)
• Pediatric nursing experience or strong interest in pediatric perioperative care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Comfortable performing pre-op assessments, medication administration, and patient/family teaching
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with surgical teams
• Ability to pass required background checks and credentialing in a timely manner

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment of pediatric patients and age-appropriate communication
• Medication administration and documentation best practices
• Familiarity with perioperative workflow and sterile/safety principles
• Comfortable using electronic health records and documenting pre-op data
• Compassionate family-centered care and presence during stressful moments
• Teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize in a busy pre-op setting
