Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive post-anesthesia care and monitoring to ensure safe recovery
• Assess and document patient status, vital signs, pain levels, and neurovascular function
• Administer medications and titrate interventions per protocol and physician orders
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and interdisciplinary teams for smooth handoffs
• Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition using critical thinking
• Educate patients and families about immediate post-op expectations and discharge planning
• Ensure strict adherence to infection control, safety standards, and unit policies
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused culture that prioritizes patient experience

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (or compact RN eligible)
• Prior PACU (post-anesthesia care) experience preferred
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred or available
• Strong clinical assessment skills and experience with post-op monitoring
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in fast-paced perioperative settings
• Ability to follow protocols, chart accurately, and manage multiple patients safely

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and recovery protocols
• Airway and respiratory monitoring, including pulse oximetry and oxygen therapy
• Hemodynamic monitoring and recognition of common post-op complications
• Pain management principles and safe medication administration
• IV therapy, med titration, and basic wound care
• Electronic medical record documentation and handoff communication
