Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused neuro stepdown and PCU-level nursing care to adult patients with neurological diagnoses
• Monitor cardiac telemetry continuously and interpret/manage dysrhythmias with confidence
• Administer and manage IV therapies, central/PICC/arterial lines and blood product administration safely
• Manage advanced respiratory support including High Flow Nasal Cannula and oxygen therapy
• Implement heparin protocols and titrate cardiac drips per unit guidelines
• Support perioperative neuro care including pre/post neurosurgery and post-TPA monitoring
• Collaborate proactively with PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, social work and rapid response teams for excellent care
• Float to other OSU units as needed while maintaining high standards of patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Ohio (required)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU-level experience caring for neuro patients — HARD STOP
• BLS required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Demonstrated telemetry experience and rhythm interpretation skills
• Comfortable with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/PICC/arterial line care and blood product administration
• Ability to titrate cardiac drips and follow heparin protocols
• Willingness to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro stepdown care and PCU/IMC/stepdown workflows
• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• IV therapy, starting and maintaining IVs, phlebotomy and peripheral line care
• Central line, PICC and arterial line management
• Blood product administration and transfusion safety
• High Flow Nasal Cannula and other respiratory support modalities
• Feeding tube care and management
• Familiarity with heparin protocols and titration of cardiac drips
• Isolation precautions, wound care and specialty neuro procedures
