Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-risk antepartum nursing care for patients from 6 weeks to 41 weeks gestation, including PTL, previa, preeclampsia, diabetes, hypertension, PROM, twins, and substance use disorder in pregnancy
• Manage IV therapy and maintain central lines (PICC/CVC) with safe, evidence-based technique
• Administer critical medications and drips, including insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, and anticoagulants
• Support labor and delivery workflows by circulating for C-sections and assisting the L&D team as needed
• Support bedside procedures such as sterile speculum exams and amniocentesis assistance with calm, skilled hands
• Provide compassionate care for fetal demise or loss and support families during difficult moments
• Collaborate with NICU and postpartum teams when mothers have babies in NICU, including floating to Postpartum unit
• Document care accurately and communicate changes promptly to ensure continuity and safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license (WA or compact license recognized; active compact license honored at Swedish facilities)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (screen if less than 2 years or no C-section experience)
• Required certifications: AWHONN Advanced, BLS, NRP
• ACLS preferred
• Experience with C-sections (ability to circulate in the OR) and antepartum high-risk management
• Comfort floating to Postpartum and working collaboratively across units
• Strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and compassionate bedside manner

Knowledge & Skills

• High-risk antepartum assessment and monitoring
• Labor and Delivery management and OR circulation for C-sections
• IV therapy, central line (PICC/CVC) maintenance, and phlebotomy
• Medication administration: insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, anticoagulants
• Experience with PCA pumps and syringe pumps
• Assistance with sterile speculum exams and bedside procedural support (amnio support)
• Fetal monitoring awareness and basic NICU collaboration
• Calm critical thinking in high-acuity situations and strong interdisciplinary communication
