Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care for post-op cardiac and critically ill cardiac surgery patients
• Monitor complex hemodynamics and titrate vasoactive medications safely
• Perform comprehensive assessments and document changes in condition promptly
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Operate and troubleshoot advanced monitoring and life-support equipment
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Respond rapidly to emergencies and participate in code and rapid response events when needed

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Texas or active multistate compact RN license
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience as specified in the posting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) strongly preferred
• Current ACLS, PALS, or other advanced certifications as applicable to the unit
• Current CPR certification and proven ability to work in fast-paced critical care settings
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of relevant critical care orientation or unit-based training

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of post-operative cardiac care and ICU-level monitoring
• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring, pulmonary artery catheters, and intra-aortic balloon pumps when applicable
• Experience with ventilator management and arterial/central line care
• Ability to interpret telemetry, lab results, and imaging relevant to cardiac patients
• Skilled in medication administration, titration, and safety checks for vasoactive drips
• Sharp clinical judgment, prioritization, and time management in critical situations
