Locum Medical Oncologist
Location: Richmond, VA
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Variable inpatient-focused schedule, primarily daytime shifts; exact days and start/end times to be determined. Includes some outpatient coverage to cover physician vacation. (Day shifts, schedule to be confirmed with facility.)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality inpatient oncology and hematology care to adult patients with compassion and clinical excellence
- Manage and coordinate inpatient treatment plans, including chemotherapy and supportive care, using EPIC for documentation
- Perform timely inpatient consultations and facilitate safe transitions to outpatient follow-up when covering vacation clinics
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, and goals of care
- Participate in handoffs, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to support continuous care improvements
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree, completed residency and fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology
- Board certified or board eligible in Medical Oncology/Hematology
- Active Virginia medical license or ability to obtain state licensure in a timely manner
- Current ACLS and BLS certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Proven experience with inpatient oncology care; outpatient coverage experience a plus
- Familiarity with EPIC for documentation and order entry
- Previous locum tenens or temporary coverage experience preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
Education
- MD or DO required; fellowship training in Medical Oncology/Hematology required
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of oncology and hematology clinical management for adult patients
- Comfortable managing chemotherapy regimens, supportive care, and inpatient oncology complications
- Proficient with EPIC electronic medical records and clinical documentation
- Excellent clinical judgment, triage skills, and ability to prioritize in a busy inpatient setting
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and coordinate care transitions
- Strong patient communication and family counseling skills
