Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise and pharmacological echocardiography) with accuracy and care.
• Conduct additional cardiac diagnostic tests as assigned, including EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing to provide clinicians with clear, actionable data.
• Operate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
• Accurately schedule, process, and charge studies in the hospital information system to support efficient clinic operations and correct billing.
• Implement and model infection control practices and aseptic technique, including proper equipment disinfection.
• Provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities, supporting skill development and clinical learning.
• Deliver age-specific patient care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations, with compassion and clinical precision.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital team members as a reliable professional resource.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or minimum of two years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography or equivalent formal training
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience and strong pediatric/neonatal echocardiography background
• Comfort with providing clinical instruction and preceptorship to students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in Transthoracic (TTE), Transesophageal (TEE), M-Mode, and Color-flow Doppler imaging
• Experience with exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
• Proficient in EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Ability to operate echocardiographs, stress testing systems, Holter recorders, and related analysis software
• Working knowledge of hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation, and charging
• Solid understanding of infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection
• Strong patient communication skills and ability to provide age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric patients
• Teaching and preceptorship skills for mentoring students and new staff
