Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care for post-op cardiac and vascular patients, ensuring safe transitions from OR to stepdown
• Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to identify and respond to changes in patient condition
• Manage cardiac drips and titratable medications with precision and sound clinical judgment
• Perform epidural and chest tube management, tube feedings, and IV therapy including IV Gluccomander administration
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about post-operative care, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Cerner EMR

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in North Carolina preferred)
• Minimum 2+ years of recent progressive care, stepdown, or telemetry nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Experience with cardiac medication/drip management and telemetry monitoring
• Comfortable caring for CV surgery and vascular surgery patients; recent CV surgery experience within the past year is a plus
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred
• Team-player attitude, flexibility, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Active RN license required; ADN or BSN in Nursing preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive care/PCU and telemetry monitoring
• Cardiac medication and drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, amiodarone, etc.)
• Epidural and chest tube management
• Post-op cardiac and vascular patient care (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, AAA, fem-pop bypass)
• IV therapy and tube feeding management
• Cerner electronic medical record proficiency
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and communication skills
