Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and reassess patients; develop, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Provide high-quality ICU care following standards, protocols and policies
• Deliver safe medication and IV therapy administration, including vasoactive drips with careful titration and monitoring
• Manage mechanical ventilation and care for intubated patients, including suctioning, troubleshooting and weaning
• Interpret EKG changes and arterial blood gases to guide clinical decisions
• Monitor and document hemodynamic parameters and assist with invasive monitoring setup
• Perform medication reconciliation and ensure accurate documentation for the care team
• Implement and monitor components of the VAP bundle and escalate deviations for review
• Provide thorough, timely handoff reports and collaborate during multidisciplinary rounds
• Teach and support patients, families and colleagues; serve as a preceptor and promote professional development
• Recognize and proactively address patient safety risks and ethical issues in care

Qualifications

• Current MA Registered Nurse license (required)
• ACLS upon hire OR active BLS with AHA ACLS to be obtained within 60 days
• MOAB class required within 60 days of hire
• CCRN preferred
• Minimum: previous med-surg, telemetry or ICU experience preferred (1 year med-surg preferred)
• Demonstrated skills in mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, EKG interpretation and vasoactive medication management
• Comfort with post-operative recovery care and ability to respond to emergent needs

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation modes, settings and adjuncts
• Intubation care, suctioning and ventilator weaning
• EKG rhythm identification and timely interpretation of changes
• Arterial blood gas interpretation and pulse oximetry assessment
• Hemodynamic monitoring setup and interpretation
• Safe administration and titration of vasoactive medications
• Intravenous (IV) therapy and medication administration best practices
• Medication reconciliation and documentation accuracy
• Implementation of VAP bundle and infection prevention strategies
• Patient assessment, post-operative care and multidisciplinary communication
