Roles & Responsibilities
- Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in the inpatient acute care setting
- Perform FEES and other instrumental and clinical swallowing assessments to inform safe, effective care plans
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe discharges
- Provide timely, clear documentation and treatment plans in the medical record
- Educate patients, families, and staff on dysphagia management, safe swallowing strategies, and communication supports
- Operate and maintain specialty equipment as needed (endoscope, VitalStim, augmentative communication devices, electrolarynx)
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii state license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
- Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
- Current CPR certification at BLS/HCP level required
- Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed at hire, must be completed within six months
- Preferred: minimum of 1 year experience as an SLP in an acute care setting
- Preferred: prior FEES clinical experience and MBS ImP experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Dysphagia assessment and management expertise
- FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) competency
- Experience with instrumental swallowing evaluations like MBS ImP
- Adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive evaluation and treatment skills
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication devices
- Experience using VitalStim and electrolarynx devices
- Strong interdisciplinary teamwork and clinical documentation skills
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-acuity acute care environment
