Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting
• Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and maintain accountability for nursing actions
• Supervise, delegate to, and support CNAs/techs to ensure safe, high-quality patient care
• Document care thoroughly in the electronic medical record and transcribe physician orders accurately
• Participate in developing and implementing department policies, care plans, and nursing procedure manuals
• Assess patient conditions, evaluate emergencies, and implement appropriate interventions
• Maintain infection control standards and ensure safe medication administration and supply levels
• Attend departmental meetings, provide nursing reports at shift change, and complete required administrative forms

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted RN license in Alaska required; direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start date (agency staff must have active Alaska license)
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
• TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
• Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years; High Risk Competency required within 3 months and annually
• Ability to work independently, make sound clinical judgments, and supervise others
• No prior experience required, though acute care/ED/long-term care experience is preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing — BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma accepted
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of nursing and medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations
• Excellent patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Proficient documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) use
• Infection control and medication administration expertise
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Leadership skills for delegation and supervision of staff
