Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage complex ICU patients with high acuity — lead bedside care for ventilated and post-CABG patients
• Provide expert ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform advanced cardiac and respiratory assessments and intervene quickly when condition changes
• Collaborate with intensivists, surgeons, respiratory therapists and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered bedside nursing including shift reports and whiteboard updates
• Follow unit-specific policies for ECMO, transplant and CVICU-level care when applicable
• Document care accurately in the Meditech system and adhere to hospital standards and safety protocols
• Participate in unit-based quality initiatives and help maintain the unit’s high standards and awards

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will not be accepted)
• Minimum 2+ years ICU/critical care nursing experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience with ventilated patients, hemodynamic monitoring and post-CABG care
• Ability to float to other ICUs as needed (rare float to PCU possible)
• Preferred: Meditech experience, CVICU experience, ECMO and heart transplant exposure

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care assessment and prioritization skills
• Proficiency in ventilator management and advanced respiratory care
• Competence with hemodynamic monitoring and interpreting invasive lines
• Cardiac care knowledge including post-op CABG and CVICU practices
• Effective communication for bedside shift reports and multidisciplinary handoffs
• Familiarity with Meditech documentation workflows
• Calm, decisive approach to high-acuity and rapidly changing situations
