Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care and monitoring for adult surgical patients in a busy outpatient setting
• Assess and manage airway and respiratory status, including placement/management of oral and nasal airways
• Perform cardiac monitoring and obtain 12-lead EKGs; recognize and manage dysrhythmias
• Start and maintain IVs, access and manage ports, and administer medications safely, including narcotics/opioid analgesics
• Use Epic for accurate, timely charting and medication reconciliation
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned — lead the team, coordinate patient flow, and support colleagues
• Educate patients and families on pre-op and post-op care to promote safe recoveries
• Participate in safety protocols such as Malignant Hyperthermia response and Isolation Precautions/PPE
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and support smooth transitions of care

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (PACU or relevant perioperative experience preferred)
• Epic experience is required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Travel nursing experience required
• Ability to float to other ambulatory sites as needed
• Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-Anesthesia Care and Pre/Post Operative care
• Airway assessment and airway management
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition and interpretation
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and port access/management
• Medication administration and reconciliation
• RASS (Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale) and pain assessment/management
• Familiarity with conscious sedation, MAC, general and local anesthesia
• Outpatient/ambulatory surgical workflows and PACU Phase I/II experience
• Strong Epic charting skills and attention to documentation detail
