Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients' communication and swallowing abilities using evidence-based assessments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on measurable progress
- Collaborate closely with nursing, OT/PT, social work and families to support holistic care
- Document evaluations, treatment plans and progress notes accurately and timely
- Educate patients and caregivers on strategies to carry over gains into daily life
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure safe transitions and continuity of care
- Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives within the facility
Qualifications
- State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or eligibility to obtain New Mexico licensure)
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent (typical for SLP roles)
- Clinical experience in adult and/or pediatric settings depending on caseload
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with SLP assessment tools
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
- Current certifications as required by facility (examples include ASHA CCC-SLP preferred; facility-specific credentials may apply)
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (typical requirement for SLP roles)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in diagnostic assessment of speech, language, cognition and swallowing disorders
- Proficient in developing individualized, functional therapy plans
- Knowledge of best practices for dysphagia management and safe swallowing
- Ability to train and educate family members and clinical staff
- Comfortable using clinical documentation systems and following facility protocols
- Strong clinical reasoning, time management and patient-centered care approach
