Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, grooming—with dignity and respect
• Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment
• Monitor and record vital signs and changes in condition, reporting concerns to nursing staff
• Provide compassionate feeding and hydration assistance, observing diet and safety needs
• Maintain clean, comfortable resident environments and follow infection-control practices
• Document care accurately in resident records to ensure continuity and quality
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to support rehabilitation goals
• Build trusting relationships with residents and families through clear, empathetic communication

Qualifications

• GNA certification (required) — you are trained to provide hands-on resident care
• Current state certification/registration as applicable for Maryland
• Previous experience in geriatric, long-term care, or rehab settings is a strong plus
• Comfortable with resident transfers and assistance with ADLs
• Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
• Ability to pass required background checks, drug screens, and facility onboarding

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Skilled in taking and recording vital signs and observing clinical changes
• Familiarity with infection control, safe lifting/transfer techniques, and fall prevention
• Good documentation practices and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to support residents with patience and empathy
• Ability to follow care plans and take direction from licensed nursing staff
