Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality intermediate cardiac/stepdown nursing care for post-surgical and CVICU-downgraded patients
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and act quickly on changes in rhythm or patient status
- Titrate vasoactive and other titratable drips (e.g., amiodarone, nitro, nicardipine, epinephrine, diltiazem) safely and per protocol
- Document assessments, interventions and patient progress accurately in EPIC
- Collaborate with cardiology, hospitalists, intensivists, RT and remote telemetry techs to coordinate care
- Troubleshoot and support respiratory devices (BiPAP/CPAP) and manage oxygen needs up to nasal cannula
- Serve as a dependable team member during orientation, complete required competency exam, and maintain unit policies
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state (eligible to work in Nebraska)
- Current BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience caring for cardiac/stepdown or similar patient population (posting lists 1 year; years of experience noted as 2)
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and interpretation and IV drip titration
- EPIC charting experience
- Driver's license required at submittal and candidate must be within 50-mile radius (no concurrent FT/PT/PRN at CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities)
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts (including nights), pass orientation competency exam (90% pass requirement), and adhere to facility policies (e.g., artificial nails prohibited)
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN not required (associate degree/diploma acceptable)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry rhythm recognition and cardiac assessment skills
- Proficiency with vasoactive medication titration and cardiac medication management
- Familiarity with post-op cardiac care, CHF, A-fib RVR, CVAs and vascular diagnoses
- Comfortable collaborating with remote telemetry techs and interpreting strips independently
- Experience with EPIC electronic charting and documentation workflows
- Basic respiratory device troubleshooting (BiPAP/CPAP) and working with RT team
- Ability to function in a fast-paced stepdown environment with appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios
